Smart Communities Uganda

A technology skilling and Development  initiative for the rural young women, youth and girl child.

At Smart Communities Uganda we’re using technology to eradicate poverty and promoting development as well as growth using  digital  training centred, Coding  and innovation initiatives  in rural Uganda in promoting greater participation of Women and youth in strategic, innovative  and Entrepreneurship.

We  are also strengthening self-reliance so that individuals, families, and communities can create positive change in their own lives through these focus areas; 

• Seed capital for rural Women and Youth startups.

• Micro loans and crowdfunding.

• Innovation.

• Financial and business literacy, knowledge and mentorships.

• General development programs to uplift rural areas.​

While rural women, youth and children are vital in providing examples of sound practices in the communities they live in, they still do not have full access to the tools needed for development, innovation, leadership and creativity  such as education, mentorships and capacity building trainings, platforms or engagements that transform them to enable them participate fully in the development and role modeling of the affairs that occur in the communities they live in.

We believe in taking action with urgency in order to raise global partnerships about some of the most pressing challenges facing today’s  rural  communities in Uganda.

About Us

​

A rural-based not for profit rural technology initiative whose aim is to combat the ever-increasing unemployment and poverty in rural areas using technology.

While the digital revolution is reaching rural areas in many developing countries, the rural digital divide continues to present considerable challenges. The problem is even more acute for women, who face a triple divide which is digital, rural, and gender.

We are enhancing inclusive growth and equality by making technology opportunities for youth, vulnerable young women, children in rural areas more accessible and visible and connecting rural areas to the rest of the world through Technology. This Initiative seeks to provide an intergrated approach that serves to address the following priority issues...

• Equip the vulnerable women, youth with practical relevant  21st digital skills, financial, e-literacy and other business tools required for entrepreneurship, innovation and decent employment that they will need to start, scale , grow and sustain a business, innovate or acquire decent employment with for better income.

• Our SMARTPRENUER  Program equips the rural young women with  startups and existing entrepreneurs with digital skills and technology proficiency that empowers them to use digital tools to transform their businesses into smart businesses.

• We also extend seed capital and Micro loans to startups and existing rural women businesses that have high potential of growth and impact .

• For the children  our  practical coding skills in schools will interest them to STEM/arts subjects to trigger creativity and innovation at an early age and also encourage them to love and stay in school.

• Our training program  and support through this initiative will evolve the beneficiaries into the role models, mentors, leaders in business and professionals that the rural communities need.

​

Through this initiative, the community individuals will be transformed empowered to make smart decisions using technology skillsets that they will have gained.  We are measuring our success not by monetary size, but by more qualitative measurements such as the scale and effectiveness of our efforts. Just imagine what we can achieve together!

We are driven by a single goal; to do our part in making the world a better place for the rural children, youth and young women. Our decision making process is informed by comprehensive empirical studies and high quality data evaluation.
